The Miner’s Rest Shepherd’s Hut was delivered the day before August Bank Holiday in 2022. It was a challenging site to work with, but after 8 hours of meticulous logistics in the blaring sun, we had carefully moved it sideways into its forever home. The lovely Vicky kept the ice-cold drinks and snacks coming until we could finally hand the keys over!

The Hut Itself

The chosen layout works brilliantly for their limited allocation for a 16ft hut; we needed to be smart with the layout and design features in order to optimise space. As part of this, we handmade and fitted a hydraulic ram-operated folding bed that neatly and easily lifts up, revealing the seating area and fold-down dining table. 

This 5-star stay, as stated by AirBnb, also has a beautiful top specification ensuite, hand-finished kitchen, underfloor heating and a log burner, creating an extra special stay for guests. It just goes to show that even smaller huts, if designed well, can provide a touch of luxury and offer the accommodation experience the client wants.

We also knew that underfloor heating would be a must if we wanted to keep the hut warn and free from potential damp in the winter months.”

What do customers like most about the Miner’s Rest Hut?

We have had several comments regarding the design of the hut and how it maximises every inch of the space, all while being a cosy place to stay. We seem to attract a lot of customers in their early 20s who like the more quirky accommodation options. 

Feedback has been excellent and we’ve had several customers say they would love to return soon. We’ve had a constant stream of guests which means the hut will have paid for itself by September 2026!

What is the key to your five-star reviews? 

It definitely pays to keep the hut clean and in good condition, but customers have also commented on good communication from us as the hosts, and the design and comfort of the hut as a whole. 

Do you enjoy the letting experience? 

Yes, I think the key is to not make it too stressful for yourself. For us, this means we choose to not have too many changeovers, offering 2+ night stays only.

This hut was a pleasure to work on from start to finish, and we love it when a site proves challenging! The moment we handed the keys over to Mike and Vicky it was celebrations all round, and to see their rental business doing so well is the icing on the cake.
